SafeTap Privacy Policy

Ransom Group
SafeTap Privacy Policy
Effective date: 24 August 2026  ·  Applies to the SafeTap mobile app

SafeTap is a personal safety app published by Ransom Group ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information SafeTap accesses, how it is used, and — most importantly — what happens to it. In short: the information SafeTap uses to power its safety features stays on your device. We do not operate a server that stores your location or contacts, and we do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.

Not a substitute for emergency services. SafeTap is a personal safety tool that helps you alert people you choose. It is not connected to 000 (Triple Zero), 911, or any emergency dispatch service, and it does not guarantee that a message will be sent, delivered, or read. Always contact emergency services directly in a life-threatening situation.

1. Information we collect
SafeTap is designed to work with as little data as possible, and to keep what it does use on your device rather than on our servers.

Location information
SafeTap requests the ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permissions. Location is accessed only when you actively use a safety feature in the app (for example, tapping to share your location in an alert). We do not track or log your location in the background, and we do not build a location history.

Emergency contacts
SafeTap stores the name and phone number of the emergency contact(s) you choose to add. This information is used solely to let you quickly reach the people you've chosen.

Information we do not collect

  • We do not require you to create an account or provide an email address to use SafeTap.

  • We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or behavioural tracking SDKs.

  • We do not access, read, or store the contents of your text messages.

  • We do not collect precise location in the background or outside of active use of a safety feature.

2. How we use your information
Location and emergency contact information are used for one purpose only: to power SafeTap's core safety feature — helping you quickly notify a contact you trust, including your location where you choose to share it. We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the feature you're actively using.

3. Storage & retention
Your emergency contacts and any location data used within the app are stored locally on your device, using standard on-device app storage. We do not operate a backend server that receives, stores, or has access to this information. Because it never leaves your device:

  • It is retained for as long as it remains in the app on your device.

  • You can remove it at any time by deleting the relevant entry in-app (where available) or by uninstalling SafeTap, which removes its locally stored data along with it.

  • We have no copy to delete on our end, because we never received one.

4. Sharing with third parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, data brokers, or advertisers. SafeTap does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs that would transmit your information off your device. If this ever changes — for example, if we introduce an optional cloud backup feature — we will update this policy and the in-app disclosures before that feature collects any data.

5. SMS & messaging
When you choose to alert a contact, SafeTap opens your device's native messaging app with a pre-filled message for you to review and send yourself. SafeTap does not request SMS-related permissions (such as SEND_SMS or READ_SMS), and it cannot send messages without your action, nor can it read your existing messages.

6. Permissions summary

Permission                                  Why SafeTap requests it                                                                                                 Leaves your                                                                                                                                                                                                                      device?
Location (fine/coarse)          To include your current location when you actively use a safety alert feature      No
None requested for SMS    Messages are handed off to your device's own Messages app to send                 N/A

7. Children's privacy
SafeTap is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because all data SafeTap uses stays on the device, no personal information is transmitted to us regardless of the user's age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details below.

8. Your rights
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Because SafeTap does not transmit your location or emergency contact information to us, you generally hold and control that information directly on your device — you can view, edit, or delete it at any time within the app or by uninstalling it. If you have questions about how SafeTap handles information, or wish to make a privacy-related request, you can contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

9. Security
Because SafeTap's safety-feature data is stored locally rather than on a server we operate, its security depends primarily on your device's own security (such as a lock screen or device encryption). We recommend keeping your device's operating system up to date and using a screen lock to protect information stored in any app, including SafeTap.

10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if SafeTap's features change. We'll update the "Effective date" above when we do, and for material changes we will provide notice within the app where practical.
